Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Steelers: B-.

The curious call sets the tone. With quarterback, safety and other spots still glaring, the Steelers used pick No. 51 on Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman they were not exactly short of.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Getting Jackson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will need Frazier to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Zach Frazier at offensive lineman with quarterback, safety and other spots open.
Pick84 Rnd3 Ja'Lynn Polk
A tidy bit of business in No. 84, where Ja'Lynn Polk graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick98 Rnd3 Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo at slot 98 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick119 Rnd4 Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. in pick No. 119 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick178 Rnd6 Fabien Lovett
No edge and no loss on Fabien Lovett in the 178th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick195 Rnd6 Jha'Quan Jackson
Jha'Quan Jackson is a better player than the 195th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
