Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a B+ to match.

The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

The Elliss pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick No. 1 they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
Pick16 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a No. 1 receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Max Melton
A straight-up fair deal on Max Melton at the 75th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick81 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
They jumped the gun on Dominick Puni, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jonah Elliss
Jonah Elliss at slot 113 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick118 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at pick 118 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick122 Rnd4 James Williams
No edge and no loss on James Williams in No. 122; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick130 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Nice patience on Matt Goncalves, who had no business lasting to the 130th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick165 Rnd5 Ainias Smith
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ainias Smith in Round 5, Pick 29, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick168 Rnd5 Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen in the 168th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
