Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Patriots this weekend: B.

The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Jarquez Hunter, taking him 52 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on TE-EDGE is the choice that costs them.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jackson.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In pick 5 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value.
Pick34 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell in the 34th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick68 Rnd3 Quinn Ewers
They paid sticker price for Quinn Ewers in slot 68, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick103 Rnd4 Cade Stover
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick139 Rnd5 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in pick No. 139 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick142 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson at Round 5, Pick 6 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick182 Rnd6 Christian Jones
By-the-book stuff, Christian Jones at No. 182 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick224 Rnd7 Carson Steele
Value said wait; Carson Steele in pick 224 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick226 Rnd7 Jarquez Hunter
A wild overpay on Jarquez Hunter in the 226th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
