The Bills lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bills reached some 49 spots for Kimani Vidal, and value like that does not grow back. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
They went early on Braden Fiske in pick 44, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
A reach on Marshawn Kneeland in slot 70; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick100
Rnd3
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at No. 100 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick107
Rnd4
James Williams
They paid a round early for James Williams in pick No. 107, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick124
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
A premium they did not need to pay, Mohamed Kamara a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A reach for Jarrian Jones in No. 128; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing in the 144th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick163
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
No drama and no debate, Malik Mustapha went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 27. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick204
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
Value said wait; Kimani Vidal in pick 204 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
