Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB
FutureB-
The Bills kept it disciplined and banked a B. Some picks age like wine; Kai Kroeger at the 251st overall pick will need to, sitting 29 spots clear of his grade. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Getting Winston Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick 24 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56
Rnd2
Demetrius Knight Jr.
They paid sticker price for Demetrius Knight Jr. in No. 56, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63
Rnd2
Darien Porter
A conviction pick on Darien Porter at pick No. 63 that the board grades a round light. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick109
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
They read the board right and Kevin Winston Jr. was the payoff at the 109th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick133
Rnd4
Logan Brown
A reach for Logan Brown in slot 133; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick169
Rnd5
CJ West
They jumped the gun on CJ West, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick170
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
No edge and no loss on Kyle Williams in pick 170; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick177
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
The board had DJ Giddens higher than No. 177, and the running back fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick206
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
A reasonable price with a little left over, Luke Lachey in slot 206. The roster fit checks out.
Pick251
Rnd7
Kai Kroeger
Kai Kroeger at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
