VESP DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the 49ers. There is conviction, and then there is this. The 49ers took Tyler Baron a full 42 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Emmanwori. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In No. 11 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick75
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 75 with a little surplus value in Omarr Norman-Lott. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick100
Rnd3
Smael Mondon Jr.
They paid a round early for Smael Mondon Jr. in the 100th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick113
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
They talked themselves into Tyler Baron at Round 4, Pick 11, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick138
Rnd4
Pat Bryant
They liked Pat Bryant enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 138. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147
Rnd5
Hollin Pierce
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hollin Pierce in pick 147. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten in No. 160 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick227
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam is a better player than the 227th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick249
Rnd7
Brady Cook
They reached a country mile for Brady Cook at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick252
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
They did well to land Thomas Fidone II in slot 252, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
