Larceny in slot 178 lands the Steelers a B-, Vaki and all.

Thirty-one other rooms let Sione Vaki slide, and the Steelers were the ones holding the card at slot 178. Highway robbery. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

The Steelers indulged a want in Frazier while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In No. 20 they get a blindside protector at fair value. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
A want over a need in the 51st overall pick: Zach Frazier adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick84 Rnd3 Max Melton
Max Melton is a better player than Round 3, Pick 20 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick98 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 98 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick119 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Wilson at the 119th pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick178 Rnd6 Sione Vaki
A safety of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick195 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
No drama and no debate, Curtis Jacobs went about where he belonged in pick 195. A need, and now a little less of one.
