Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Steelers: C+.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Steelers started one anyway for Jackson Powers-Johnson, 31 picks ahead of schedule.

They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Jackson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In pick 20 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection. Need was not the driver here.
Pick52 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Kingsley Suamataia, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick84 Rnd3 Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau in slot 84 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick120 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick121 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Robinson at the 121st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick198 Rnd6 Omar Brown
No edge and no loss on Omar Brown in the 198th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jha'Quan Jackson
Jha'Quan Jackson in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
