Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueC+ NeedC+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers land in the muddy middle: C+.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Steelers would have aced it. Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 119 is 30 spots clear of where he belonged. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Steelers indulged a want in Frazier while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In slot 20 they get a cornerstone up front. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Zach Frazier in Round 2, Pick 19 leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick84 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
They paid up for Brenden Rice at pick No. 84 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick98 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Nothing to complain about; Khyree Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick119 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
They reached a country mile for Luke McCaffrey at the 119th pick, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick178 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Curtis Jacobs. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick195 Rnd6 Johnny Dixon
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Johnny Dixon. A need, and now a little less of one.
