The Steelers let Smith fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

The curious call sets the tone. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still glaring, the Steelers used slot 51 on Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman they were not exactly short of. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Smith to cover a lot of smaller sins.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
