Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesC+ FutureB
More right than wrong for the Steelers, and a B- to prove it.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Steelers reached some 25 spots for Sedrick Van Pran, and value like that does not grow back.

The Steelers indulged a want in Van Pran while a need in safety, linebacker and other spots stayed open. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Getting Franklin where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 JC Latham
In slot 20 they get a cornerstone up front. More want than need.
Pick65 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 3 slot on Sedrick Van Pran with safety, linebacker and other spots unsolved.
Pick95 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
A reach on Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 32; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick101 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in pick 101 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick119 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
Nothing to complain about; Leonard Taylor III went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick120 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kris Abrams-Draine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick168 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 32 with a little surplus value in Joe Milton III. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick198 Rnd6 Christian Jones
By-the-book stuff, Christian Jones at slot 198 squarely in line with his ranking. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick242 Rnd7 Zakhari Franklin
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Zakhari Franklin worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
