Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueB NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Chargers: B.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Chargers reached some 49 spots for Jaleel Johnson, and value like that does not grow back. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The Johnson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Colin Simmons
In the 1st pick they get juice off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Will Echoles
Will Echoles at the 33rd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick65 Rnd3 Ryan Coleman-Williams
Nothing to complain about; Ryan Coleman-Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100 Rnd3 Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103 Rnd4 Jaylen McClain
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylen McClain in pick 103. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick138 Rnd5 Jayden Jackson
Jayden Jackson in No. 138 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick222 Rnd7 Tao Johnson
You do not let a safety like Tao Johnson reach slot 222 and blink. They did not. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick235 Rnd7 Jaleel Johnson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaleel Johnson. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
