Draft Grade — Bills

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bills a B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bills reached some 53 spots for Kimani Vidal, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is McGlothern. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Adonai Mitchell
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
A straight-up fair deal on Braden Fiske at No. 60, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick128 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Matt Goncalves in pick No. 128. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick134 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
They will replay Elijah Jones at Round 4, Pick 34 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick144 Rnd5 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at the 144th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick160 Rnd5 Christian Jones
Taking Christian Jones in the 160th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick163 Rnd5 Marist Liufau
No drama and no debate, Marist Liufau went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick189 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
They barely believed it either: Dwight McGlothern still on the board at slot 189. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick200 Rnd6 Kimani Vidal
A big swing on Kimani Vidal at pick No. 200, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick204 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. in the 204th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick248 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
They liked Sam Hartman enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 248. The roster fit checks out.
