Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Saints were there to profit. Julian Pearl, the No. 203 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 19.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Every board in the league had Jean-Baptiste lower, and that gap is the story. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
