Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueB NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Browns answered their biggest question with Ward. Grade: B.

The board owed the Browns one, and it paid up: Chris Paul Jr., the No. 117 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 214 like a gift left on the doorstep. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

So much rides on Cam Ward that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Hallman lower, and that gap is the story.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In No. 2 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
Value with a capital V on Luther Burden III in Round 2, Pick 1, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 67 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
A quiet steal in the 93rd pick: Deontae Lawson for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick103 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
They robbed the room for Malachi Moore here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick167 Rnd5 Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in pick 167 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick178 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in slot 178 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick191 Rnd6 Ricardo Hallman
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ricardo Hallman well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick203 Rnd6 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in No. 203 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick214 Rnd6 Chris Paul Jr.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Chris Paul Jr. in Round 6, Pick 39, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick215 Rnd6 Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa at pick 215 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
