Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
D+
ValueA
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureA
The Browns answered their biggest question with Sanders. Grade: D+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Xavier Restrepo got past him. The Browns do not have to explain a thing at the 215th overall pick. Put together, it is a D+.
Shedeur Sanders gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In pick No. 4 they get a franchise quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick8
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Ashton Jeanty
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 35 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick39
Rnd2
Travis Hunter
They will replay Travis Hunter at Round 2, Pick 7 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick45
Rnd2
Tre Harris
Circle this one: Tre Harris at pick 45 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick65
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
Taking Tate Ratledge in the 65th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick70
Rnd3
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen at the 70th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick91
Rnd3
Emery Jones Jr.
They barely believed it either: Emery Jones Jr. still on the board at slot 91. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick109
Rnd4
Josaiah Stewart
The board fumbled Josaiah Stewart all the way to No. 109, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick139
Rnd5
Dylan Fairchild
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Dylan Fairchild in Round 5, Pick 1, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick179
Rnd6
Jahdae Barron
Steal is underselling it; Jahdae Barron at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick186
Rnd6
Ashton Gillotte
Somehow Ashton Gillotte was still sitting there in No. 186, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick201
Rnd6
Garrett Nussmeier
Garrett Nussmeier in the 201st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick215
Rnd7
Xavier Restrepo
You do not let a wide receiver like Xavier Restrepo reach slot 215 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick216
Rnd7
Deontae Lawson
They robbed the room for Deontae Lawson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
