FutureA+
Best value of the weekend goes to the Browns for Cowing: D+. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Browns shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Cowing at that price is a win they earned. The Browns clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Keon Coleman
No drama and no debate, Keon Coleman went about where he belonged in the 24th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick32
Rnd1
Jordan Morgan
In pick 32 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Pick55
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 23, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Trey Benson at No. 75 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick85
Rnd3
Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske at pick No. 85 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick86
Rnd3
Josh Newton
They took Josh Newton at par in the 86th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick111
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni is a better player than the 111th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jacob Cowing
You do not let a wide receiver like Jacob Cowing reach No. 123 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick128
Rnd4
Tyrice Knight
The board had Tyrice Knight higher than the 128th pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick135
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Travis. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick143
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 143 with a little surplus value in Jaheim Bell. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick156
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen at Round 5, Pick 20 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Jaylin Simpson graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick172
Rnd5
Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader in slot 172 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick205
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
Value with a capital V on JD Bertrand in Round 6, Pick 30, a genuine coup. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick208
Rnd6
Jalen Green
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Green at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick228
Rnd7
Erick All
A slide stopped in pick No. 228, with Erick All worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
