FutureA
The Browns let Milum fall into their laps, and walked away with a C-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Browns watched Wyatt Milum slide 211 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Matt Goncalves deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. They went 8 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick33
Rnd2
Ashton Jeanty
Ashton Jeanty in pick No. 33 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick38
Rnd2
Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers at pick 38 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick52
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Walter Nolen in slot 52, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick54
Rnd2
Tre Harris
The board fumbled Tre Harris all the way to the 54th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick55
Rnd2
Emery Jones Jr.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick68
Rnd3
Tyler Booker
They barely believed it either: Tyler Booker still on the board at the 68th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jahdae Barron
You do not let a safety like Jahdae Barron reach No. 83 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Pick86
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
They will replay Tate Ratledge at No. 86 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jordan Hancock
Somehow Jordan Hancock was still sitting there in the 104th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick142
Rnd5
Bear Alexander
Taking Bear Alexander in slot 142 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149
Rnd5
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in pick 149 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick160
Rnd5
Xavier Restrepo
Circle this one: Xavier Restrepo at Round 5, Pick 22 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick176
Rnd6
Cam Ward
They robbed the room for Cam Ward here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick207
Rnd6
Jason Marshall Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Jason Marshall Jr. at the 207th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad at Round 7, Pick 38 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick253
Rnd7
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum at No. 253 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
