Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
D+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
The Browns robbed the room for Nussmeier. Final grade: D+. When a board-topper like Garrett Nussmeier slides to the 96th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Browns did not. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
Reaching for Roberts left real value on the table behind him. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
The Browns paired the rookies with proven help, Quenton Nelson leading the way. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In pick No. 4 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick19
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Carson Beck
Carson Beck at No. 33 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jordan Hancock
A quiet steal in the 38th pick: Jordan Hancock for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40
Rnd2
Deone Walker
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Deone Walker. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick49
Rnd2
Ajani Cornelius
A clean, defensible pick in the 49th overall pick with a little surplus value in Ajani Cornelius. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick65
Rnd3
Ollie Gordon II
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ollie Gordon II at Round 3, Pick 1 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick66
Rnd3
Abdul Carter
Abdul Carter slipping to slot 66 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick68
Rnd3
Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III at the 68th pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69
Rnd3
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jay Higgins
They let Jay Higgins come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 26. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick96
Rnd3
Garrett Nussmeier
Circle this one: Garrett Nussmeier at No. 96 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick102
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Kevin Winston Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Patrick Payton
Good price on Patrick Payton in pick No. 104, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick107
Rnd4
Jaeden Roberts
A real head-scratcher, Jaeden Roberts in the 107th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick118
Rnd4
Theo Wease Jr.
They reached into another round for Theo Wease Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick129
Rnd4
Daylen Everette
Value with a capital V on Daylen Everette in Round 4, Pick 28, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick155
Rnd5
Samuel Brown
No edge and no loss on Samuel Brown in pick No. 155; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176
Rnd6
David Bailey
They read the board right and David Bailey was the payoff at the 176th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick188
Rnd6
Jaydn Ott
They paid sticker price for Jaydn Ott in pick 188, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
