FutureA+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Browns and Nussmeier: D+. The Browns lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Nussmeier.
The veteran additions, Tyler Guyton chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the 8th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick22
Rnd1
Tre Harris
In slot 22 they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34
Rnd2
Nicholas Singleton
A tidy little value on Nicholas Singleton in No. 34, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick39
Rnd2
Deone Walker
They let Deone Walker come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick44
Rnd2
Carson Beck
Carson Beck in Round 2, Pick 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
No edge and no loss on Ashton Gillotte in pick 70; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick71
Rnd3
Luke Kandra
They paid sticker price for Luke Kandra in Round 3, Pick 7, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick77
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
Steal is underselling it; Barrett Carter at pick No. 77 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick91
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick97
Rnd3
Garrett Nussmeier
Somehow Garrett Nussmeier was still sitting there in the 97th overall pick, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick98
Rnd3
Howard Cross III
Good price on Howard Cross III in slot 98, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
You do not let a safety like Sebastian Castro reach No. 106 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick107
Rnd4
David Bailey
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and David Bailey at the 107th pick is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick168
Rnd5
Cobee Bryant
Nice patience on Cobee Bryant, who had no business lasting to pick 168. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
