Grand theft in the Round 5 slot: the Browns steal Carter and grade out a A-. Call it larceny. Barrett Carter sat on the board until the 165th overall pick, and the Browns did not need to be asked twice. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The veteran additions, Baker Mayfield chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
In the end it comes back to Josh Simmons, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
