FutureB-
The Browns drew a line under the quarterback search with Ward: B. When a board-topper like Harold Perkins Jr. slides to the Round 7 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Browns did not. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
So much rides on Cam Ward that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The cost of the Zuhn III reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In No. 5 they get the face of the franchise. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Derrick Harmon at the 49th pick is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Tyler Warren
Somehow Tyler Warren was still sitting there in the 67th pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
The board fumbled Kaleb Johnson all the way to pick 75, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick97
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
They let Deontae Lawson come to them and pounced at the 97th overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick118
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at Round 4, Pick 17 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick143
Rnd5
Trey Zuhn III
Value said wait; Trey Zuhn III in pick No. 143 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick152
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
They barely believed it either: Danny Stutsman still on the board at No. 152. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick153
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in slot 153 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick180
Rnd6
Quinshon Judkins
They robbed the room for Quinshon Judkins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick187
Rnd6
Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish in pick 187 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick233
Rnd7
Harold Perkins Jr.
You do not let a linebacker like Harold Perkins Jr. reach the 233rd pick and blink. They did not. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
