FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Buccaneers. The tape said wait; the Buccaneers did not. Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson went at pick 125, a good 130 picks before the board was ready. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is King. They will answer for taking linebacker early while quarterback went begging. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick39
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders in pick 39 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in No. 44 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick54
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren slipping to the 54th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick64
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jihaad Campbell at linebacker with quarterback open.
Pick69
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Watts at slot 69 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick76
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 76, where Alfred Collins graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at Round 3, Pick 13, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick80
Rnd3
Malachi Moore
A surprising call. With quarterback still to address, they spent the 80th pick on Malachi Moore, a safety they were not short of.
Pick85
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Burch well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick100
Rnd3
Logan Brown
Value said wait; Logan Brown in pick 100 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jack Bech
Jack Bech is a better player than the 104th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick111
Rnd4
Demetrius Knight Jr.
A want over a need in slot 111: Demetrius Knight Jr. adds a linebacker while quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick117
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
They did well to land Cam Skattebo in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120
Rnd4
Sonny Styles
A curious use of pick No. 120. Quarterback needed the pick; a safety in Sonny Styles did not.
Pick125
Rnd4
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in pick 125 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
They reached a country mile for O'Donnell Fortune at slot 138, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick147
Rnd5
Cody Simon
Cody Simon at pick No. 147 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick152
Rnd5
Savion Williams
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 15 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick156
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A big swing on Davison Igbinosun at No. 156, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick170
Rnd5
Rylie Mills
They will replay Rylie Mills at the 170th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick177
Rnd6
Kobe King
Circle this one: Kobe King at the 177th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick190
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jonah Monheim
They talked themselves into Jonah Monheim at pick No. 193, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick195
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
Good price on Jack Kiser in No. 195, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jaishawn Barham
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaishawn Barham at the Round 7 slot. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick220
Rnd7
Giles Jackson
A real head-scratcher, Giles Jackson in pick 220 is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick235
Rnd7
Clay Webb
They let Clay Webb come to them and pounced at slot 235. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick238
Rnd7
Joey Slackman
Joey Slackman in Round 7, Pick 22 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
