FutureB-
The Buccaneers turned the phones into found money: B. The war room fell hard for JT Daniels, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 4: 60 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Landing Simpson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. The Buccaneers indulged a want in Solomon while a need in interior defensive lineman and wide receiver stayed open.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell in the 36th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick37
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in pick 37 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick55
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 23 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick68
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in No. 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick94
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
A reach for Jaden Hicks in the 94th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick98
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
A want over a need in pick No. 98: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while interior defensive lineman and wide receiver keeps waiting.
Pick100
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
They reached a country mile for Darius Robinson at the 100th pick, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick102
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
They left a pile of value on the table to take Braelon Allen this early at slot 102. The roster fit checks out.
Pick119
Rnd4
Javon Foster
They took Javon Foster at par in pick 119, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick164
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylin Simpson at No. 164. It fills a real need, too.
Pick169
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo slipping to pick No. 169 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick185
Rnd6
Erick All
Erick All at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick197
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Value said wait; Dwight McGlothern in the 197th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson at Round 6, Pick 45 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick224
Rnd7
JT Daniels
A big swing on JT Daniels at Round 7, Pick 4, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick240
Rnd7
Carson Steele
A premium they did not need to pay, Carson Steele a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
