Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall

FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Buccaneers this weekend: B. The Buccaneers clearly saw something nobody else did in J.J. Weaver, taking him 119 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Higgins pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the 28th pick they get a sticky cover corner, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick47
Rnd2
Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey at slot 47 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick68
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in pick 68 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick98
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A big swing on Ozzy Trapilo at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick99
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
By-the-book stuff, Maxwell Hairston at the 99th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick125
Rnd4
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at No. 125 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Que Robinson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Que Robinson in the Round 4 slot, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick137
Rnd4
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ar'maj Reed-Adams this early at slot 137. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick148
Rnd5
Sonny Styles
They robbed the room for Sonny Styles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick151
Rnd5
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick154
Rnd5
Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. in pick No. 154 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick170
Rnd5
Cody Simon
Circle this one: Cody Simon at the 170th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter slipping to pick 171 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick174
Rnd5
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at Round 5, Pick 36 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick175
Rnd5
Harold Perkins Jr.
The board fumbled Harold Perkins Jr. all the way to No. 175, and they scooped it up. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick190
Rnd6
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in pick 190 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick209
Rnd6
Davison Igbinosun
They liked Davison Igbinosun enough to skip the value, taking him in the 209th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211
Rnd6
Clay Webb
A premium they did not need to pay, Clay Webb a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in slot 220 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jaishawn Barham
A tidy bit of business in the 225th pick, where Jaishawn Barham graded well above the range. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick231
Rnd7
Xavier Nwankpa
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Xavier Nwankpa in pick No. 231, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick233
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
Value said wait; J.J. Weaver in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick236
Rnd7
Giles Jackson
They reached into another round for Giles Jackson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
