The Buccaneers turned the phones into found money: B. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Buccaneers took J.J. Weaver at Round 7, Pick 19, roughly 119 spots before his name belonged. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Taylor pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick57
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
By-the-book stuff, Alfred Collins at pick No. 57 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick60
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at the Round 2 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick64
Rnd2
Malachi Moore
A conviction pick on Malachi Moore at the 64th overall pick that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick79
Rnd3
Jack Bech
A real head-scratcher, Jack Bech in No. 79 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ozzy Trapilo well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick99
Rnd3
Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at Round 3, Pick 35 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick126
Rnd4
Cody Simon
They took Cody Simon at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick128
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
A big swing on Cobee Bryant at slot 128, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick135
Rnd4
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at pick 135 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in the 137th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick149
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dont'e Thornton Jr. in Round 5, Pick 11, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick153
Rnd5
Sonny Styles
Somehow Sonny Styles was still sitting there in No. 153, and they pounced on premier safety value. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick174
Rnd5
Miles Frazier
A wild overpay on Miles Frazier in pick No. 174, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick175
Rnd5
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson this early at the 175th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick180
Rnd6
Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. at No. 180 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick190
Rnd6
Harold Perkins Jr.
They robbed the room for Harold Perkins Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at the 197th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick199
Rnd6
Mason Taylor
They barely believed it either: Mason Taylor still on the board at Round 6, Pick 24. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick211
Rnd6
Clay Webb
Clay Webb at pick 211 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
Steal is underselling it; Jack Kiser at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick225
Rnd7
Ja'Quinden Jackson
A running back of that caliber at the 225th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick233
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at slot 233 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Pick236
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Luke Lachey. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
