FutureB
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Buccaneers and Perkins Jr.: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Harold Perkins Jr. got past him. The Buccaneers do not have to explain a thing at Round 6, Pick 33. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Slackman has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick64
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at the 64th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick68
Rnd3
Trey Amos
A quiet steal in No. 68: Trey Amos for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick70
Rnd3
Kyle Kennard
Kyle Kennard at the 70th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jack Bech
Jack Bech at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick80
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in Round 3, Pick 16 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick99
Rnd3
Malachi Moore
Taking Malachi Moore in pick 99 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jayden Higgins
Value said wait; Jayden Higgins in slot 115 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick132
Rnd4
Sonny Styles
A surprising call. With quarterback still to address, they spent pick No. 132 on Sonny Styles, a safety they were not short of.
Pick141
Rnd5
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at pick 141 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick153
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 153 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick155
Rnd5
Cobee Bryant
A real head-scratcher, Cobee Bryant in slot 155 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick157
Rnd5
Cody Simon
Somehow Cody Simon was still sitting there in No. 157, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick165
Rnd5
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They reached a country mile for Ar'maj Reed-Adams at the 165th pick, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick178
Rnd6
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at Round 6, Pick 3 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick187
Rnd6
Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. at the 187th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick208
Rnd6
Harold Perkins Jr.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick209
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
No drama and no debate, Miles Frazier went about where he belonged in pick 209. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick211
Rnd6
Davison Igbinosun
They went early on Davison Igbinosun in the 211th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jaishawn Barham
They let Jaishawn Barham come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 4. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick221
Rnd7
Amari Kight
A wild overpay on Amari Kight in pick No. 221, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick223
Rnd7
Joey Slackman
A big swing on Joey Slackman at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick227
Rnd7
Ja'Quinden Jackson
Ja'Quinden Jackson at slot 227 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
