Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Bears let Taylor fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Mason Taylor, the No. 102 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 178.

Reaching for Kight left real value on the table behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In the 14th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at Round 2, Pick 4 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick45 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick53 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Tyleik Williams at slot 53, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick73 Rnd3 Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland in pick No. 73 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick84 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
The board fumbled Xavier Watts all the way to the 84th pick, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jake Majors
Circle this one: Jake Majors at No. 146 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick156 Rnd5 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at pick 156 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick171 Rnd5 Smael Mondon Jr.
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in No. 171 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick178 Rnd6 Mason Taylor
Steal is underselling it; Mason Taylor at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick202 Rnd6 Ricky White III
No edge and no loss on Ricky White III in pick 202; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick222 Rnd7 Amari Kight
A wild overpay on Amari Kight in the 222nd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick228 Rnd7 Cam Skattebo
They will replay Cam Skattebo at pick No. 228 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick244 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
They robbed the room for Jack Kiser here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
