Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueD+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers did enough to get by: C+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Steelers did exactly that with Hayden Hatten in the Round 7 slot. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. That Corley pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 20th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick52 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in No. 52 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick84 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Malachi Corley in slot 84. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
No edge and no loss on Jarrian Jones in the 120th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick121 Rnd4 Khristian Boyd
Khristian Boyd at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick198 Rnd6 Christian Jones
A reach for Christian Jones in pick No. 198; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick238 Rnd7 Hayden Hatten
A big swing on Hayden Hatten at slot 238, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
