Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Steelers: C+.

The Steelers clearly saw something nobody else did in Bub Means, taking him 90 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

It is not that Frazier is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Hit on Amarius Mims and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the 20th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value.
Pick52 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Zach Frazier at offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open.
Pick84 Rnd3 Max Melton
Max Melton in pick 84 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick98 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Johnny Wilson in Round 3, Pick 35, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick119 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
They went early on Mohamed Kamara in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick154 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at slot 154 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick155 Rnd5 Bub Means
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Bub Means well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Pick178 Rnd6 Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers at pick No. 178 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick195 Rnd6 Kalen DeLoach
Kalen DeLoach at the 195th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
