Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall C
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Ravens lost the trade table, and the C tells the story.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Ravens took Jaylon Hutchings at the Round 7 slot, roughly 104 spots before his name belonged.

On value alone, Washington makes the weekend a net positive. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

If Brian Thomas Jr. and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In No. 30 they get a true top target at fair value.
Pick62 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick93 Rnd3 Ricky Pearsall
You do not let a wide receiver like Ricky Pearsall reach the 93rd overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick96 Rnd3 Max Melton
They barely believed it either: Max Melton still on the board at slot 96. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick113 Rnd4 Bucky Irving
Taking Bucky Irving in pick No. 113 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick116 Rnd4 Nelson Ceaser
They talked themselves into Nelson Ceaser at the 116th pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick130 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams in No. 130 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick165 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick218 Rnd6 M.J. Devonshire
M.J. Devonshire at the 218th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick228 Rnd7 Tahj Washington
Somehow Tahj Washington was still sitting there in the 228th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick250 Rnd7 Jaylon Hutchings
Jaylon Hutchings at slot 250 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
