Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB
The 49ers robbed the room for Singleton. Final grade: D.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Nicholas Singleton, the No. 98 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 192nd pick.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

The Bernard pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Princely Umanmielen
In the 17th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick26 Rnd1 Will Johnson
They took Will Johnson at par in the Round 1 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick44 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
They let Luther Burden III come to them and pounced at pick 44. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick79 Rnd3 Clay Webb
A quiet steal in slot 79: Clay Webb for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Circle this one: Jake Majors at No. 112 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick115 Rnd4 Alfred Collins
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Alfred Collins reach pick No. 115 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jihaad Campbell
A tidy bit of business in the 138th pick, where Jihaad Campbell graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick192 Rnd6 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at Round 6, Pick 17 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick194 Rnd6 Brant Kuithe
Brant Kuithe slid further than he should have, and pick No. 194 is lovely value for the tight end. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick235 Rnd7 Hunter Wohler
Steal is underselling it; Hunter Wohler at Round 7, Pick 21 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick250 Rnd7 Jack Velling
Jack Velling at No. 250 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick255 Rnd7 Germie Bernard
Germie Bernard in the 255th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
