Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB
Quarterback settled, Sanders in the fold, and a D for the 49ers. The 49ers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 254th overall pick on Jordan James a full 37 spots early.
Shedeur Sanders gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Getting Coleman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick20
Rnd1
Princely Umanmielen
In pick No. 20 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
No drama and no debate, Wyatt Milum went about where he belonged in the 38th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
A tidy little value on Dylan Fairchild in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick84
Rnd3
Kenneth Grant
Nothing to complain about; Kenneth Grant went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick85
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
A reach on Maxwell Hairston in the 85th pick; the board had better options right there. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick120
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at the 120th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jack Nelson
Circle this one: Jack Nelson at slot 138 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick142
Rnd5
Ben Yurosek
Ben Yurosek at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jared Wilson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Wilson in pick No. 161, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jonah Coleman
They robbed the room for Jonah Coleman here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jasheen Davis
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jasheen Davis well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick245
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
They reached into another round for Jack Kiser, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick247
Rnd7
Germie Bernard
Germie Bernard in No. 247 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick254
Rnd7
Jordan James
They reached a country mile for Jordan James at the 254th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
