Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureD-
Nobody dealt better than the Steelers this weekend: B-.

If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Steelers, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend.

The Owens reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots went begging.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Steelers paired the rookies with proven help, Justin Fields leading the way.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get protection for the quarterback, reach and all.
Pick64 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Patrick Paul at offensive lineman with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick84 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A reach for Brenden Rice in pick 84; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick95 Rnd3 Javon Baker
They paid sticker price for Javon Baker in the 95th overall pick, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
They took McKinnley Jackson at par in the 120th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick121 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick197 Rnd6 Tyler Owens
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Owens in pick No. 197 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick238 Rnd7 Trevin Wallace
Trevin Wallace at No. 238 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
