Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC FutureB-
Good, not great, for the 49ers: B-.

The 49ers put a flag in the ground for Thor Griffith, 66 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Grant falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant slid further than he should have, and pick No. 31 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick43 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
A tidy little value on Tyleik Williams in Round 2, Pick 11, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick63 Rnd2 Jordan Burch
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Burch in the 63rd pick, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Pick66 Rnd3 Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor in the 66th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75 Rnd3 Charles Grant
They paid a round early for Charles Grant in pick 75, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
No edge and no loss on Jared Wilson in slot 100; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jackson Slater
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jackson Slater well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
They paid sticker price for Malachi Moore in No. 138, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick147 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
By-the-book stuff, O'Donnell Fortune at slot 147 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick160 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
A premium they did not need to pay, Chase Lundt a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at pick 227 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Pick249 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Thor Griffith. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick252 Rnd7 Hunter Wohler
They paid up for Hunter Wohler at Round 7, Pick 36 when waiting would have done the job. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
