BG23 DRAFTING FOR THECardinals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
B-
ValueB-

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cardinals robbed the room for Reed. Final grade: B-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cardinals watched Jaylen Reed slide 37 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Jackson reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Josh Simmons
In pick 16 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick47
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 47th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick78
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick115
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at Round 4, Pick 13 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick152
Rnd5
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard in the 152nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed in No. 225 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
