Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

FutureD+
The Lions bled value on every deal, hence the D. The Lions lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If Hartman pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, linebacker very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at pick 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick36
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
By-the-book stuff, Darius Robinson at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick40
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Legette. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick61
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in the 61st pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick73
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro at the 73rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick100
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
Good price on Caelen Carson in No. 100, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick164
Rnd5
Sione Vaki
Nothing to complain about; Sione Vaki went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
They liked Sam Hartman enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 29. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
