FutureA+
The Cardinals won the night they stopped Pritchett from sliding. Grade: B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Nehemiah Pritchett tumbling to the Cardinals in the 208th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The Hopper reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Cardinals clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
Good price on Troy Fautanu in pick 25, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick41
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at Round 2, Pick 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick45
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman at No. 45 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick58
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
Nice patience on Roman Wilson, who had no business lasting to the 58th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick71
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
They read the board right and Kingsley Suamataia was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick104
Rnd4
Caelen Carson
Caelen Carson at the 104th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick121
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at pick No. 121 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick148
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in slot 148 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick162
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
A big swing on Ty'Ron Hopper at No. 162, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick169
Rnd5
Fabien Lovett
A conviction pick on Fabien Lovett at pick No. 169 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
They paid sticker price for Jordan Travis in slot 174, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick203
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in the 203rd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Pick208
Rnd6
Nehemiah Pritchett
They will replay Nehemiah Pritchett at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick226
Rnd7
Dominique Hampton
Dominique Hampton at Round 7, Pick 6 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor itch, scratched.
