Conviction outran the board for the Cardinals, and it cost them: F. Nobody else had Jaylon Hutchings anywhere near the 245th pick. The Cardinals did, by 110 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That McGlothern pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 27th pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
They took Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at par in Round 2, Pick 3, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick38
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske in pick No. 38 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick53
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell slipping to the 53rd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick58
Rnd2
Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley at slot 58 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick66
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A clean, defensible pick in pick 66 with a little surplus value in Christian Haynes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick71
Rnd3
Renardo Green
They went early on Renardo Green in the 71st overall pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick80
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe is a better player than Round 3, Pick 16 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
They paid sticker price for Gabriel Murphy in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick91
Rnd3
Malik Washington
Malik Washington in pick No. 91 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick97
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo in No. 97 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick104
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at slot 104 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Value said wait; Isaac Guerendo in the 106th pick says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick115
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
They paid up for Ben Sinnott at the 115th pick when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick138
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
A reach on Jacob Cowing in pick 138; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick146
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Roger Rosengarten graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick149
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
By-the-book stuff, Dallin Holker at pick No. 149 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick161
Rnd5

No edge and no loss on Khristian Boyd in slot 161; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick169
Rnd5
Tyrone Tracy Jr.
They read the board right and Tyrone Tracy Jr. was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 33. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick170
Rnd5
Brandon Coleman
They liked Brandon Coleman enough to skip the value, taking him in the 170th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick171
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper at No. 171 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick172
Rnd5
Fabien Lovett
A premium they did not need to pay, Fabien Lovett a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick175
Rnd5
Logan Lee
They reached a country mile for Logan Lee at pick 175, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick182
Rnd6
Sione Vaki
Steal is underselling it; Sione Vaki at the 182nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick186
Rnd6
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
They jumped the gun on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick194
Rnd6
Eric Watts
A wild overpay on Eric Watts in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick195
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
Good price on Tanor Bortolini in slot 195, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick202
Rnd6
Trente Jones
Nice patience on Trente Jones, who had no business lasting to No. 202. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
Jaylen Harrell in pick No. 203 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick207
Rnd6
Cody Schrader
They robbed the room for Cody Schrader here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick208
Rnd6
Myles Murphy
Myles Murphy at the 208th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick210
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Circle this one: Dwight McGlothern at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick214
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson at pick 214 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick219
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
A reach for Frank Gore Jr. in No. 219; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at Round 7, Pick 1 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick223
Rnd7
Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams at slot 223 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick224
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal at pick No. 224 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jawhar Jordan
Jawhar Jordan in No. 226 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick229
Rnd7
Javontae Jean-Baptiste
They let Javontae Jean-Baptiste come to them and pounced at pick 229. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick237
Rnd7
Tayvion Robinson
Tayvion Robinson in pick No. 237 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick240
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Fair-plus on Edefuan Ulofoshio, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick242
Rnd7
Zion Logue
A real head-scratcher, Zion Logue in the 242nd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick245
Rnd7
Jaylon Hutchings
They talked themselves into Jaylon Hutchings at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick255
Rnd7
Andrew Raym
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 35, with Andrew Raym worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick256
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
A straight-up fair deal on Sam Hartman at slot 256, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick257
Rnd7
Brevyn Spann-Ford
The board had Brevyn Spann-Ford higher than the 257th overall pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
