FutureF
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Cardinals a B-. There is reaching, and then there is Jawhar Jordan at pick 220. The Cardinals jumped the board by 59 and dared it to prove them wrong. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
However the rest shakes out, Colson at that price is a win they earned. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
In the 21st overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick26
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell in No. 26 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick28
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick31
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In slot 31 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick32
Rnd1
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
In the 32nd pick they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. More want than need.
Pick36
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick37
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at pick No. 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick38
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braden Fiske. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick39
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
They paid sticker price for Chris Braswell in slot 39, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick66
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
A tidy little value on Malachi Corley in Round 3, Pick 2, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick84
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
Good price on Marshawn Kneeland in No. 84, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick90
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Value with a capital V on Cade Stover in the 90th pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick91
Rnd3
Renardo Green
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Renardo Green in pick 91. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick94
Rnd3
Junior Colson
They barely believed it either: Junior Colson still on the board at Round 3, Pick 31. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick100
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 100th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick104
Rnd4
Patrick Paul
Somehow Patrick Paul was still sitting there in pick No. 104, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick119
Rnd4
Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick120
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
They went early on Mohamed Kamara in pick 120, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick125
Rnd4
Malik Washington
Malik Washington in the 125th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick131
Rnd4
Elijah Jones
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Elijah Jones at slot 131 is the proof. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick138
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
The board had cheaper options than Jacob Cowing at No. 138, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick158
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen in slot 158 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick162
Rnd5
Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy in No. 162 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick186
Rnd6
Logan Lee
They reached into another round for Logan Lee, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick208
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
A reach on Gabe Hall in the 208th overall pick; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick215
Rnd6
Garret Greenfield
Garret Greenfield at pick No. 215 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick219
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal at Round 6, Pick 44 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick220
Rnd6
Jawhar Jordan
Jawhar Jordan at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick221
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
A reach for Edefuan Ulofoshio in pick 221; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick222
Rnd7
Cedric Johnson
No drama and no debate, Cedric Johnson went about where he belonged in No. 222. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick225
Rnd7
Andrew Raym
A conviction pick on Andrew Raym at slot 225 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick226
Rnd7
Keaton Bills
They paid a round early for Keaton Bills in pick No. 226, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick227
Rnd7
JD Bertrand
They did well to land JD Bertrand in the 227th pick, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick253
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
They took Sam Hartman at par in pick 253, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
