Phillips should have been long gone. The Cardinals pounced, and earned a B. The Cardinals spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jordan Phillips, the No. 106 name on the board, in No. 177.
The cost of the Lampkin reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
The Cardinals paired the rookies with proven help, Trenton Simpson leading the way. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
