Draft Grade — Cardinals

TradesA+
FutureA-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Cardinals a B+. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cardinals took Andrew Coker a full 108 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
However the rest shakes out, Laumea at that price is a win they earned. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. at No. 35 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick39
Rnd2
Dallas Turner
You do not let an edge rusher like Dallas Turner reach pick No. 39 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick52
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
Somehow Troy Franklin was still sitting there in the Round 2 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick57
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 57 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
They will replay Jordan Morgan at slot 58 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick64
Rnd2
Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley at Round 2, Pick 32 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick68
Rnd3
Junior Colson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Junior Colson in pick No. 68. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick70
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
They took Sedrick Van Pran at par in No. 70, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jaylen Wright
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Wright went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 7. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick74
Rnd3
Cade Stover
No edge and no loss on Cade Stover in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75
Rnd3
Renardo Green
Renardo Green in the 75th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick76
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marshawn Kneeland. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
A premium they did not need to pay, Dominick Puni a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick82
Rnd3
Malik Washington
Malik Washington in pick 82 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84
Rnd3
Beaux Limmer
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Beaux Limmer. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick86
Rnd3
Trevor Keegan
Value said wait; Trevor Keegan in pick No. 86 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick89
Rnd3
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
Nothing to complain about; Dadrion Taylor-Demerson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.

A real head-scratcher, Mason McCormick in the 90th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91

They jumped the gun on Mekhi Wingo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.

DeWayne Carter
DeWayne Carter at the 101st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.

Pick109
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at pick No. 109 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick115
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Gray at slot 115 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick119
Rnd4
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in pick 119 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick120
Rnd4
Hunter Nourzad
They talked themselves into Hunter Nourzad at the 120th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick121

Pick125
Rnd4
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick126
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at Round 4, Pick 26 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick127
Rnd4
Elijah Jones
Value with a capital V on Elijah Jones in pick No. 127, a genuine coup. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick128
Rnd4
Sione Vaki
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sione Vaki well ahead of where he belonged. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick132
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Taking Cole Bishop in slot 132 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick134
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
The board had Tyler Davis higher than the 134th overall pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick136
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Layden Robinson this early at pick 138. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick141
Rnd5
Brandon Coleman
A wild overpay on Brandon Coleman in the 141st pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick142
Rnd5
Javon Baker
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Javon Baker in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick145
Rnd5
Brennan Jackson
They paid a round early for Brennan Jackson in pick No. 145, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ty'Ron Hopper in the 149th overall pick, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick156
Rnd5
Delmar Glaze
They reached into another round for Delmar Glaze, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick158
Rnd5
Drake Nugent

Pick159
Rnd5
Anthony Gould
Anthony Gould in Round 5, Pick 23 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick162
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe slid further than he should have, and pick 162 is lovely value for the edge rusher. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick166
Rnd5
Gabe Hall

Pick187
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at the 187th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick195
Rnd6
Myles Cole
A straight-up fair deal on Myles Cole at No. 195, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.

Pick220
Rnd6
Jordan Magee
Jordan Magee in Round 6, Pick 45 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick222
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick 222 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick226
Rnd7
Austin Reed
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Austin Reed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jawhar Jordan
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jawhar Jordan in the 247th pick, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick248
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
They paid sticker price for Kimani Vidal in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.

Rnd7
Keaton Bills
Keaton Bills slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
