Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesA-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Cardinals: B. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cardinals reached some 20 spots for LaDarius Henderson, and value like that does not grow back. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In pick No. 4 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 28th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at the 35th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick66
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
They took Ruke Orhorhoro at par in slot 66, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jaylen Wright
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Wright at No. 71 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick90
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They read the board right and Khyree Jackson was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 27. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick99
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick106
Rnd4
James Williams
A reach on James Williams in slot 106; the board had better options right there. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick129
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in pick No. 129 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick137
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
They talked themselves into Jordan Travis at No. 137, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick161
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper at pick 161 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick188
Rnd6
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the 188th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick222
Rnd7
Logan Lee
Logan Lee at Round 7, Pick 2 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick224
Rnd7
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson in the 224th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick241
Rnd7
Tayvion Robinson
A tidy bit of business in Round 7, Pick 21, where Tayvion Robinson graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
