Draft Grade — Cardinals

FutureA+
Larceny in No. 163 lands the Cardinals a A-, Williams and all. You build a draft on nights like this. James Williams had no business being available in the 163rd pick, and the Cardinals did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Adding Drake Jackson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
The Sainristil pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick No. 17 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick31
Rnd1
Edgerrin Cooper
In the 31st overall pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Josh Newton
Josh Newton in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick63
Rnd2
Brandon Dorlus
Good price on Brandon Dorlus in No. 63, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick68
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
By-the-book stuff, Mekhi Wingo at the 68th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick71
Rnd3
Blake Corum
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Corum at slot 71, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick81
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A tidy little value on Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 17, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They took Zak Zinter at par in pick 94, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104
Rnd4
Devontez Walker
They paid sticker price for Devontez Walker in pick No. 104, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133
Rnd4
Theo Wease
Theo Wease at the 133rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick141
Rnd5
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at pick 141 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick163
Rnd5
James Williams
The board fumbled James Williams all the way to Round 5, Pick 27, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
