Brade should have been long gone. The Cardinals pounced, and earned a B. When a board-topper like Beau Brade slides to pick No. 226, you do not overthink it, and the Cardinals did not. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Tagovailoa has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Newton pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In No. 4 they get a true top target at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In the 27th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick66
Rnd3
Rome Odunze
The board fumbled Rome Odunze all the way to pick 66, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71
Rnd3
Kool-Aid McKinstry
They will replay Kool-Aid McKinstry at pick No. 71 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick94
Rnd3
Adisa Isaac
Somehow Adisa Isaac was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick104
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at slot 104 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112
Rnd4
Ray Davis
Ray Davis at the 112th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133
Rnd4
Josh Newton
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Josh Newton at cornerback with tight end open.
Pick138
Rnd5
James Williams
They read the board right and James Williams was the payoff at the 138th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick208
Rnd6
Taulia Tagovailoa
They reached into another round for Taulia Tagovailoa, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick226
Rnd7
Beau Brade
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 226 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
