Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+.

Whoever sat across the table from the Bears should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The Nugent pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick29 Rnd1 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at No. 29 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick35 Rnd2 Byron Murphy II
Byron Murphy II at pick No. 35 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick66 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
By-the-book stuff, Javon Bullard at the 66th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick75 Rnd3 Trey Benson
Good price on Trey Benson in pick 75, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick110 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
They went early on Sataoa Laumea in the 110th pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick127 Rnd4 Drake Nugent
They jumped the gun on Drake Nugent, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Pick129 Rnd4 Jordan Travis
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Travis. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick146 Rnd5 Edefuan Ulofoshio
No edge and no loss on Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 146; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick186 Rnd6 AJ Barner
A straight-up fair deal on AJ Barner at No. 186, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick232 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
They paid sticker price for Joshua Cephus in pick No. 232, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
