Draft Grade — Browns

FutureA-
The Browns found their guy under center in Sellers: D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Browns did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
The whole projection now runs through LaNorris Sellers; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Greathouse where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In No. 2 they get a rangy last line of defense. A real need, handled.
Pick12
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In the 12th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick21
Rnd1
LaNorris Sellers
In the 21st pick they get a passer to set the clock by, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick29
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In slot 29 they get a difference-maker at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38
Rnd2
Carnell Tate
They barely believed it either: Carnell Tate still on the board at the Round 2 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Trevor Goosby
A premium they did not need to pay, Trevor Goosby a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Pick69
Rnd3
Colton Hood
No edge and no loss on Colton Hood in pick 69; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89
Rnd3
Gabe Jacas
A reach on Gabe Jacas in pick No. 89; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick104
Rnd4
Mikail Kamara
A conviction pick on Mikail Kamara at the Round 4 slot that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick112
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance is a better player than Round 4, Pick 12 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
They liked Parker Brailsford enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 113. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick119
Rnd4
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They read the board right and Emmanuel McNeil-Warren was the payoff at pick 119. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
Nice patience on Monroe Freeling, who had no business lasting to the 128th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick148
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
Aaron Graves at slot 148 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick149
Rnd5
David Oke
David Oke at pick No. 149 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Pick173
Rnd5
Kage Casey
They let Kage Casey come to them and pounced at the 173rd overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick190
Rnd6
Jaden Greathouse
Jaden Greathouse at the 190th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick241
Rnd7
Dijon Johnson
A real head-scratcher, Dijon Johnson in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick243
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander in slot 243 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
