DutchNugget DRAFTING FOR THESeahawks

Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall

FutureD-
A weekend the Seahawks spent ahead of the board, for worse: F. The rest of the league had time to spare on McKade Mettauer; the Seahawks did not wait, grabbing him 36 spots ahead at the Round 7 slot. There is no dressing it up: a F.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want.
The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at linebacker, quarterback and other spots. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In pick No. 7 they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick16
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the 16th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They paid up for Ja'Tavion Sanders at the 38th pick when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 59 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick78
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at slot 78 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick81
Rnd3
Maason Smith
A surprising call. With linebacker, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent pick 81 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick106
Rnd4
Marshawn Kneeland
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marshawn Kneeland. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick118
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
They paid sticker price for Kris Abrams-Draine in slot 118, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick154
Rnd5
Ainias Smith
A straight-up fair deal on Ainias Smith at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick194
Rnd6
AJ Barner
A quiet steal in the 194th overall pick: AJ Barner for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236
Rnd7
McKade Mettauer
This one needs a full-page explanation: McKade Mettauer in pick 236, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
