Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueB NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Chargers let Alexander fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Bear Alexander tumbling to the Chargers in pick No. 107 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They are betting Smith proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Jeremiah Smith
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Zabien Brown
Zabien Brown in pick 33 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick65 Rnd3 Anthony Smith
A real head-scratcher, Anthony Smith in the 65th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick107 Rnd4 Bear Alexander
Taking Bear Alexander in pick No. 107 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick134 Rnd4 Shadre Hurst
They read the board right and Shadre Hurst was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 33. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick138 Rnd5 Anthony Boswell
They paid sticker price for Anthony Boswell in the 138th pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick173 Rnd5 Demond Williams Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Demond Williams Jr. at No. 173 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick221 Rnd7 Earnest Greene III
Good price on Earnest Greene III in slot 221, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick232 Rnd7 Payton Pierce
The board had Payton Pierce higher than Round 7, Pick 12, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick234 Rnd7 Jaden Platt
Jaden Platt at the 234th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
