More right than wrong for the Chargers, and a B to prove it. It is the swing that defines the weekend: AJ Green in Round 5, Pick 11, a good 38 spots before the room expected him.
They banked enough surplus on Johnson to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Leonard Moore
In pick No. 4 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington slipping to the 35th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick66
Rnd3
Kade Pieper
You do not let an offensive lineman like Kade Pieper reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick100
Rnd3
Greg Johnson
Steal is underselling it; Greg Johnson at Round 3, Pick 36 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick114
Rnd4
Raylen Wilson
They let Raylen Wilson come to them and pounced at slot 114. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick142
Rnd5
Walker Lyons
Walker Lyons at No. 142 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148
Rnd5
AJ Green
They reached a country mile for AJ Green at pick No. 148, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222
Rnd7
Jordan Faison
Jordan Faison at slot 222 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick228
Rnd7
Cody Jackson
They took Cody Jackson at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
